Leaving successful careers in some of Europe’s finest hotels, in 1994 Hotel du Vin founders Robin Hutson and Gerard Basset developed the hugely popular Hotel du Vin & Bistro in Winchester, Hampshire. It became an overnight success, attracting critical acclaim in the UK national press and a strong following in the local community.

In 1997, Hotel du Vin & Bistro opened in Tunbridge Wells. All the key ingredients of Winchester’s success were incorporated into the new hotel: an outstanding Grade II listed building in the centre of town, a commitment to focus on what matters most to our guests, and a dedicated team who ensure that quality and friendly, unstuffy service are at the heart of what we do.
